Digital Perioperative Precision Medicine
Perioperative medicine continuously generates complex, multimodal data – ranging from routine clinical information and physiological signals to monitoring data and patient-reported outcomes.
AI²POC investigates how these data can be systematically integrated and combined with clinical expertise, data science, and artificial intelligence. Our research spans the entire perioperative pathway and links methodological development with clinically relevant questions.
Our goal is to generate scientifically robust insights from data and use them to develop new approaches toward increasingly personalized perioperative care.
We put this into practice in the following research areas and projects
Three perspectives on perioperative precision medicine
Our research brings together physiological signals, perioperative brain health, and the translation of new clinical approaches. These three research areas provide the methodological and scientific framework for our projects.
AI-generatedMultimodal Neuromonitoring
Understanding physiology. Integrating signals.
We investigate how EEG, nociception monitoring, vital signs, and other physiological signals can be combined to characterize perioperative states in greater detail and develop new data-driven monitoring approaches.

Brain Health & Neurocognition
Understanding and protecting brain function throughout the perioperative pathway.
Our research focuses on perioperative brain health, delirium, and neurocognitive changes, as well as their relationship with anesthesia, physiological alterations, and patient-centered outcomes.

AI-generatedTranslation of Clinical Innovation
From research question to clinical reality.
We investigate how digital, data-driven, and AI-based innovations can be safely and meaningfully translated into real-world perioperative workflows and evaluated scientifically.

Our research projects translate the scientific focus areas of AI²POC into specific perioperative research questions. They combine prospective clinical research, multimodal data, patient-centered outcomes, and the evaluation of new approaches to care.
AI-generatedENiMoN
Personalized analgesia through multimodal monitoring
ENiMoN investigates how nociception-related information is associated with physiological signals, anesthesia therapy, and postoperative outcomes, with the aim of advancing patient-adapted approaches to perioperative analgesia.

Safe Brain Initiative
Advancing perioperative brain health systematically
The Safe Brain Initiative combines preoperative risk assessment, EEG-informed anesthesia, delirium prevention, and patient-centered outcomes within a structured approach to perioperative brain health.
